Unity Spirit Shield

Unity Spirit Shield from Thunder Valley DrumsA Time For Love
And The Power Of
UNITY

Unity. A beautiful word.

So far, though, it remains an elusive potential in the human family.

But not inside of you.

In a special September, 2011 podcast, I discussed the importance of going inside yourself in order to rediscover your power. At this time in our world, you are being called on to help. If you are a healer, an explorer, a warrior, or especially if you feel weak or displaced, you are in need of your power now. Change is happening, and to some people, the world can appear chaotic. But if you maintain a connection with your interior power, you can be of service to others in helping to assure the survival of love. It's axiomatic that being strong inside is a prerequsite for being strong outside. Love is the power. It is the unifying force for spiritual connection, creation, expression and service.

So this Unity Spirit Shield is a representation of exactly that concept. The colors of the human races blending one into the other on the circle of creation. The unusual opalescent picture jasper stone in the center, which I have saved for a long time to use in making this shield, contains all of those colors, as well, red, yellow, black and white in a beautiful unity. Running through it is a copper wire with copper end rings that support emerald chips protected by copper discs. And hanging beneath them on each side are lilac discs, which carry the spiritual message of expression and reception. (You can read more about this in the free eBook download here, "The Tree, The Shrub And Something Called The Ain Soph Aur.")

Two feathers represent the lifting of prayers to the realm of the creator. The shield is then attached to a strong oak pole which is lodged in a base made from lightning-struck maple wood.
Even the base itself carries the same spirit of unity, and is completely natural. When this piece was cut from the center of a lightning-struck drum, I discovered these wonderful markings, which apparently are the remnants of branches which once grew out of the tree. Their shapes seem to suggest, however, an eagle in flight and an upward pointing arrow, both of which are power symbols in nearly every culture on Earth.

And on top is an ancient crinoid, an early form of life which grew circle upon circle, our ancestral heritage.

Yes, this is a very powerful shield from top to bottom. It presents an opportunity for you to journey in the circle of life, to discover the common heart beneath our exterior differences, to go inside to the core of human freedom, the place where love resides. It is a protected and safe place, guarded by your understanding of the goodness which we all possess and which we must all call forth, first from within, then from others through our service, no matter how difficult.

It is hard to remember these principles when chaos flourishes, even though most of us learned these early in life from various faith traditions, creeds, and even in a once cherished document that still resides in Washington, DC. It begins in part, "...in order to form a more perfect Union..."

Unity. That is what forms the shield around love, the greatest power there is.

Hear its call.

Feel its power.

Aho & Namaste,
Bob

Notes:

1. I randomly chose the color sequence for the lacing. And simply picked up a piece and started wrapping, followed by the next, and so forth. Thus, and even though it appears as if I gave more space to certain colors, it was not intentional. The predominant color of the piece, when studied overall, is red / amber, but again, that was not intentional.

2. The cedar crosspieces are neither perfectly straight nor uniformly wide or thick. This was the result of limited stock.

3. I prefer to ship the piece without the feathers attached and the shield not tied to the pole. This helps protect the feathers and also reduces the size of the package, thus saving some postage costs. Since the shield is not permanently attached to the pole, you have the option of simply hanging it on other things for special occasions or when portability may be desired. Holes are drilled in the horizontal cross piece so you can thread the feather wrappings through them (will probably require a needle). As shown in the main photo at the top, the feathers are not permanenly attached, and that is why they are unevenly spaced. Also, the pole is not permanenly embedded in the base, but can easily be placed in the base.

4. To reduce unsightly knots, I occasionally used an all natural glue in spots to secure the wrappings. I worry that the glue may loosen over time and a wrapping may splay. If this happens, you can reglue and clamp it, or wrap tape around it until the glue dries. Should you be unable to do so, you may send it to me and I will do it for you, no charge. But please pay postage.

5. The wire through the center of the stone can be gently bent up or down to balance the lilac discs. But please do not bend it often or rapidly, else it could break.
