Suffice it here to acknowledge that I find deep and beautiful mysteries in the simple observation of a lilac’s profound visual demonstration of existence. Thus found, the mystery can become the intention, and the intention can lead to spiritual expression.

But beyond the esoteric, one can also simply say that lilac jewelry is beautiful to behold, so long as the jewelry maker stays out of the way. The lilac wood used in this jewelry is the result of a pruning that followed a feasting by a tribe of insects. Fair enough, for the lilac plant was not harmed in the sacrifice of some of its branches, and in fact prospered as a result of the pruning. The tribe made out okay, too, moving on to its next meal in the backyard garden and propagating its kind in the Great Wheel of Life.

So it was for me a wonderful opportunity to gather the remains, clean out the damaged areas, and help the Lilac express its beauty in a new way. As a student of mine once said of my outlook on such, “It’s a ‘love’ thing.” Indeed. And sacred, too.

TVD519 “String Theory” Lilac Necklace: (Right) There were many pathways cut through this section of Lilac by various members of the Insect Tribe, so I added a few extra for a more representative depiction of the physics “string theory,” whereby pathways through time and space exist beyond our normal perception. The strings in this case are round black leather lacing occasionally studded with copper crimpers and wooden beads. A copper ring graces one side.
