Celtic Prince Drum

To Free The Heart In Service To All

I've always contended that "being spiritual" doesn't mean being somber. The lighter the heart, the better the journey. This beautiful sacred drum has assisted us and countless seekers in our own circle during sacred ceremonies, and its voice has always been most lively and distinctive, quite youthful and joyful! (You can hear it and see it in action by watching the short video below.)

And now, after a substantial overhaul, I offer it for the many journeys awaiting you and your clan.

It is one of the most exciting drums I've ever made, filled with totems, like swimming fish, a busy woodpecker, a chomping dragon and a very special brass medallion that captures the essence of a way of life once thought lost, but now being rediscovered by you and seekers around the world.

While The Celtic Prince does carry an unmistakable
European tribal symbolism, it encompasses a much larger concept common to seekers everywhere— the security, sense of community and knowing of self worth when joined in the sacred circle. It's the combination of vastly different soul paths, ages, outlooks and expressions that come together on common ground with soulful purpose, whether in shamanism, paganism or countless other practices that place connection with the Divine and service to all of life above all else.

And if that isn't cause for youthful exuberance and joyful expression, I don't know what is. When you play this drum, you will
definitely be in tune with your insides, the realm of the inner child, the one who longs for embrace and joyful union. And once found, the youthful heart lives free—no matter what age you are.

Notes:

  1. I made this drum several years ago and it was used many times in ceremony. Unlike a car, however, a sacred drum doesn't wear out with use. It gets better! I have updated a few things on it, like a new hand-rubbed finish (no small task if you've ever tried working bee's wax and oil into hardwood). I shortened one of the root extensions. And before it's shipped to you, I will put on a newer woodpecker.
  2. Yes, this drum was made from a real tree. Sometimes folks can't quite grasp the concept. The Celtic Prince was once a real tree growing atop a West Virginia mountain. When I found it, it was a stump, mostly hollowed out by the elements. So I had very little work to do in cleaning it out. It was easy to tell that it wanted to be a drum because it had already prepared itself!
  3. As with all natural drum heads, the sound of the drum will vary depending on temperature and weather conditions. Introducing a modest amount of heat to the drum head will tighten it and make its tone rise. It's no big deal, and takes about a minute to get it to sound its best. I will enclose an information sheet for use and care of The Celtic Prince Drum.
  4. All of these drums made from real trees are not symmetrical, and therefore will produce different tones when struck in different places. It is such a unique and wonderful quality that these alone can offer. You can get a form of harmonics many times when striking two drum sticks on different areas of the drum head simultaneously. Way cool!
  5. As explained elsewhere on the site, but worth repeating here, is that when I know a tree to have been lightning-struck, I will say so regarding a drum made from such. If I am not sure, as is sometimes the case when finding an old downed tree or jagged stump in the woods (like the Celtic Prince), I will say I'm not sure whether it was lightning or something else that brought down the tree. The latter applies to The Celtic Prince Drum...I do not know if it was struck by lightning or not. It contains a lot of Lightning-Struck wood though, and is ringed by it, in fact. The tie-down pegs are Lightning-Struck Cherry wood, and many of the decorations contain the same. In that regard, The Celtic Prince is a Lightning-Struck Drum, as the power of lightning is transferred into the drum by the addition of the Lighting-Struck wood, exactly like grafting a tree, in the spiritual sense.
  6. This drum is definitely not a lap drum! It sits just right on the floor or ground, though, at the perfect height to play "from the knees" when you're sitting in front of it on a chair. That's another great feature that I had absolutely nothing to do with. It resulted from an act of Spirit and the tree.
Aho & Namaste,
Bob

The Story Of The Celtic Prince

Close up of the dragon on the Celtic Prince drum
As you may know from reading elsewhere on the site, it takes a very long time to make one of these sacred drums. So over the months of closely working with each other, the drum and I get to know each other quite well. And so far, every drum I’ve ever been honored to make has told me its story.

The Celtic Prince’s story is about love and honor, and how a clan passes its traditions across the generations through word, deed and symbol.

The clan’s mighty warrior chief wanted to give his young son a proper gift, so ordered that a special drum be made. His specifications were clear: It should be constructed of the sacred oak, for its strength, and it should depict the clan’s most cherished beliefs.

Seven hand-shaped round and square pegs should encircle the drum to honor the mystical directions, and three apple wood discs must be decorated with copper and emeralds to denote rebirth and the three levels of existence. All of these should be attached near the top. The drum should also include the likeness of a fierce dragon, the symbol of passion and bravery, fish to symbolize wisdom and the clan’s collective adroit fishing skill, and a woodpecker, the clan’s totem animal. And finally, a great medallion of hammered brass should depict the sacred symbols of a bird of prey, sun, moon, stars, an oak tree, stag’s head and the Ogham alphabet letters denoting the clan’s warrior motto, “Live Free.”

And so it was.

The youth, the warrior, the quest, the path, the language of symbol and Spirit...all combined with the intention of spiritual connection and healing. They are all inside of us...and the sacred drum.
